Immigration to Brazil: Federal Police in Belo Horizonte (MG) suspends service for the public

Due to the escalation of the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil, some immigration-related services have been temporarily suspended, or attending the public has been reduced. The Federal Police in Belo Horizonte (MG), for example, canceled all appointments from March 09, 2021. For any urgent request, the immigrant must send an email to the supervisor, with the justification for the request. It will be at the discretion of the Federal Police to comply with the request or not.

Therefore, before booking appointments for any procedures with immigration agencies it is recommended to check the operation status.

The good news is that considering the difficulty faced by immigrants to gain access to immigration services, the Ministry of Justice, through Ordinance No. 21-DIREX / PF, from February 2nd, 2021, extended the deadline for immigration regularization until the 16th September 2021. The measure is valid for immigrants who have identification documents that expired from March 16, 2020, or who entered Brazil during the pandemic and were unable to register properly.

The aim is to prevent administrative sanctions for immigrants who have breached immigration rules due to the restrictions imposed by the Public Health Emergency.
